Getting started
Install Floaty, turn it on in the theme, then publish one group. Check it on a phone before you add another.
Install
- Open Floaty on the Shopify App Store.
- Add the app and finish the install Shopify shows you.
- In the Shopify admin, open Apps, then Floaty.
Turn the buttons on
Floaty does not show until the theme embed is on.
- In Floaty, click Open theme editor.
- Open App embeds.
- Turn Floaty on.
- Click Save in the theme editor.
- Return to Floaty. If the page does not refresh, click Verify installation.
Switching themes turns the embed off for the new theme. Open the theme editor again and turn Floaty on there.
Create a button group
The free plan allows one icon group and up to five icons in it. Pro removes both limits.
- Click Create from scratch, or use a template (below).
- On Basics, name the group. Use a name you will recognize later, such as Social or Contact.
- Set Group type to Floating Buttons or Navigation Bar.
- Open Buttons and add at least one icon. For each icon set a name, colors, and what a click does: a link, a call, an email, WhatsApp or another chat app, a social profile such as TikTok, a product, a collection, the cart, a copied discount, or an on-page action such as back to top.
- Drag icons to reorder them. Hide an icon you are not ready to show without deleting it.
- On Appearance, set the group colors, Icon shape (circle or square), and Icon size (small, medium, or large). For a floating group, set Direction to horizontal or vertical and pick a Screen position (corners, edges, or centered).
- Save, and leave the group active.
Open the storefront, click the group, and try one icon. A single icon shows on its own. Two or more sit behind the group icon until a shopper opens them.
Start from a template
Templates are ready-made groups for social, chat, navigation, promo, and support. Browse them and apply the one that fits.
- Click Browse all templates, or pick from Quick start templates on the home screen.
- Filter by Social Media, Communication, Navigation, Ecommerce, or Support, or search by name.
- Click Apply now on one template. On the free plan, apply only one. A second group needs Pro.
- Open the new group and replace the sample links, phone numbers, and profile names with yours.
- Save.
Examples you can apply include a social set (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), a contact set (call, email, WhatsApp), and a navigation set (home, search, cart). Those names are examples, not the whole library.
Use a mobile bar
- Edit the group.
- On Basics, set Group type to Navigation Bar.
- Choose a Navigation bar style:
- Fixed Bottom stays along the bottom of the screen.
- Floating Pill is a shorter bar. Set Pill alignment to left, center, or right.
- Floating Menu is the compact menu style.
- Turn Show button labels on if the icons need words.
- Choose an Active tab indicator: sliding pill, dot, underline, pill background, or none. Set an Active state color, or leave it blank to use each icon's own color.
- Optionally set a Featured button so one icon, often the cart, sits forward.
- Turn on Frosted glass background if you want a blur behind the bar.
- Save, then check the bar on a phone. It should not cover the add-to-cart button.
Choose pages and devices
Page and device targeting is a Pro feature. On the free plan the Targeting tab asks you to upgrade, and the group can show on every page.
On Pro, open the group and select Targeting:
- Page targeting: All pages, Show only on specific pages, or Hide on specific pages.
- When you are not on all pages, add one rule per line, written the way the page looks in the address bar.
/is the homepage./products/covers product pages./collections/saleis one collection. A*stands in for the rest of the address. - Device targeting: All devices, Desktop only, Mobile only, or Tablet only.
Save, then view the storefront on the device you picked and on one you excluded.
Schedule (also Pro) is the next tab. Start and End are optional. Show on these days picks the weekdays. Times use the shop timezone. A sale group can show for that week and then stop.
Behavior (Pro) chooses the trigger: Show immediately, After delay (seconds), After scroll (% of page), or On exit intent (desktop). You can also hide the group while the shopper scrolls down, and pick an animation: none, fade in, slide up, bounce in, or pulse.
Read click counts
Click analytics is a Pro feature. The free plan shows an upgrade message instead of the report.
- Open Analytics in Floaty.
- Choose Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or Last 90 days. The summary compares that window with the one before it.
- Read Total clicks, the busiest day, the daily average, and the top group.
- Use the breakdowns for group, action, and device to see which icon earns the click.
- Click Export CSV if you want the rows outside the app.
Counts start when shoppers click on the storefront. A new group shows nothing until someone uses it.
Back up a group
On Pro, Settings includes Import and Export. Export keeps a backup of your groups. Import brings a backup back. Both are upgrade prompts on the free plan.
What to check before you judge it
- The theme embed is on, and you saved the theme.
- The group is active and has at least one visible icon.
- Sample template links have been replaced with yours.
- On a phone, the bar or the stack does not cover checkout or add to cart.
- If the group is missing on one page only, check Targeting and Schedule on Pro.
