Points, levels, challenges, and store credit

Do this in the Shopify admin after the setup checklist is green. The current plans allow one challenge. Build the level rewards first, then spend that one challenge on the action you most want repeated.

Points

Points are the score. They are not spent at checkout.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Enter a points number and an amount in your store currency. Example: 100 points and 10 means 100 points are worth 10.
  3. Save.

The home screen uses that rate to price unused points. A level can override it. Open the level, find Points conversion, and set a different pair. Leave it blank to keep the store rate.

Until you change Settings, a new install uses 100 points for 10 in the store currency.

Levels

Levels are the tiers. Install creates three:

LevelPoints to reachBoost
Starter01×
Bronze2001×
Silver4001×

Change any of those numbers. To add another level, open Levels and create one. Give it a name, a short description, an icon, and the points required.

On the level's reward settings:

  • Discount eligibility. 0 means no discount. Any other percent creates a Shopify discount for that level. When a member reaches the level, they are added to that discount and removed from the previous level's discount.
  • Cashback eligibility. 0 means no store credit. Any other percent is paid as store credit on the member's later orders. See Store credit.
  • Boost earning. From 1 to 10, in steps of 0.5. A member on that level has their challenge points multiplied by this number. 1 leaves points unchanged.

Archive a level you want to hide and restore it later. Archived levels drop out of the member split on the home screen. The default Starter level is the floor at 0 points, so new members have somewhere to stand.

A customer moves up when their earned points reach the next level's requirement. Points only count after they have joined the program.

Challenges

A challenge is one way to earn. Open Challenges, create one, and set:

  • Name and points. Points must be at least 1.
  • Description. Shoppers can see this in the widget.
  • Trigger. This is what must happen. You pick it when you create the challenge.
  • Status. Active shows it. Draft hides it. Schedule keeps it between a start and an end date.
  • Challenge frequency. How many times one customer can earn it. 0 means no cap.

The six triggers:

  1. Create account. Points when they create a store account.
  2. Place order. Optional rules: a minimum quantity, and a minimum amount in your currency.
  3. Specific products. Choose the products that must be in the order. Other products do not count for this challenge.
  4. Social media. Paste the page link. The shopper opens it from the widget and claims the points. Prizify does not check the social network.
  5. Schedule event. A date you care about, such as a birthday. The shopper enters a day and a month in the widget.
  6. Customer data. This is where you ask for a custom product field. See below.

Challenges Group stays off until more than one challenge exists. A group pays its own points only after the customer has finished every challenge in the group. With the current one-challenge limit, you cannot build a group yet.

Custom product fields

Use this when you want the shopper to answer a short question about what they want from the product, such as a fit, a scent, or a preference.

  1. Create the challenge and choose the Customer data trigger.
  2. In Options, type the choices separated by commas. Example: Small, Regular, Oversized.
  3. Set the points, leave status on Active, and save.

The shopper picks one choice in the widget. You write those choices on the challenge. You do not add a field on the product in the product editor.

Store credit

Store credit is cashback, not a points checkout.

  1. Open the level that should pay.
  2. Set Cashback eligibility to the percent you can afford. 5 pays 5% of the product total. 0 pays nothing.
  3. Save.
  4. The member must already have joined, and the order must belong to that customer.

When that order comes in, Prizify adds the amount to their Shopify store credit. They spend it at checkout like any other store credit. You do not email a code and you do not record the payout by hand.

The product total is the merchandise on the order. It is not shipping. The Transactions page lists these payouts next to points activity. That page labels its dates in UTC.

A level can do discount, cashback, and a points boost together, or only one of them.

Confirm it

  1. Use a test customer who can sign in on the published theme.
  2. Join from the widget. If the widget offers register or login, the customer is not signed in yet.
  3. Complete the one challenge. For an order challenge, place a real or test order that meets the minimums and includes the products you picked.
  4. In admin, open Customers and confirm the points and level.
  5. If cashback is above 0, confirm the store credit on that customer's account after the order, and the payout on Transactions.

If the result is wrong, use Troubleshooting before you reinstall.
