Use a notice

Write the message once, preview it, then decide where it shows and who should see it.

Preview

The editor has a Preview next to the form.

  • A theme notice previews as the inline bar or the popup, with the colors and buttons you set.
  • A checkout notice previews as the checkout version of that notice.

The theme editor also shows the block after you paste the key. That view is for layout. It is not a substitute for opening the store in a normal window.

You can start from a ready-made template on the home page, or choose Browse Templates when you create a notice. Preview the template, then change the words. A draft cannot be marked as a public template.

Storefront

  1. Publish the notice when you want it marked live in the app.
  2. Add the quick-notice block in the theme section that should carry it.
  3. Paste the key into Enter the Key and save the theme.

The block also has padding above and below the notice. Use that for space, not a second banner.

To take the notice off the storefront, remove the block or clear the key, then save the theme. Saving a draft does not, by itself, hide a storefront notice.

Checkout

  1. The notice must be For Checkout Only, and the store must be on Shopify Plus.
  2. Publish it. A draft stays off checkout, and the checkout editor warns you.
  3. In the checkout editor, paste the key into Notice Key and save.

The checkout block does not use the storefront icon. Set the title, message, and buttons in the app, then check the preview.

Buttons

Each notice has three button slots: First, Second, and Third. Hide a slot you do not want. Each visible button has one action:

ActionWhat the shopper gets
DismissThe notice closes.
RedirectThe shopper goes to the link you enter.
CookieThe notice closes and tracking consent is accepted.
Add Products to CartThe products you picked are added to the cart.
Remove Products From CartThe cart is cleared.

The close mark on a storefront notice closes it. Turn the close mark off on Settings if the notice should stay until they use a button.

Display this notice only once hides it for the rest of that browser visit after it has been shown.

The notice list counts how many shoppers saw the notice. That view count is the number to trust.

Targeting

Open the Targeting tab.

Leave Targeting Mode off when everyone should see the notice. That is the reliable way to publish.

The same tab has the rules, if you need them:

  • Show on devices is Desktop, Mobile, or Both. There is no separate tablet choice.
  • Geo Targeting is the country list. Pick the countries that should see the notice.
  • Target By UTM Sources is the campaign source on the link (utm_source). Use it together with utm_medium.
  • Target By Cart is the vendor, SKU, or product type already in the cart.
  • Target By Customer is a tag on the logged-in customer.

Turn Targeting Mode on, save, and open the store in a normal window. The theme editor is not that test. It shows the notice so you can design it, even when a shopper would not.

If the notice is missing for everyone after you turn targeting on, turn Targeting Mode off, save, and reload. Add one rule only after the notice shows with targeting off.

Schedule

After the notice is saved, Schedule lets you pick a start and an end and save the notice as scheduled. Open it again and those dates are still there.

The storefront does not start and stop the notice by that clock. When the message should stop, remove the theme block or clear the key. In checkout, set the notice back to draft if shoppers should not see it.

Country redirects

Country redirects are on the Plus plan ($9 a month, or $90 a year). They are not included on the free plan.

A rule sends visitors from the countries you choose to another store. The redirect runs automatically. A confirmation step is marked coming soon and cannot be selected yet.

This is not a list of broken links. It does not forward an old path unless you set the rule to keep the visitor's current path.

Add the rule in the app, then turn on Redirects Setup under App embeds in the theme editor and save. The home page lists the rules and shows whether the theme app is on.
