Gift Card Checker
Customer service

Getting started

Install from the Gift Card Checker By Maestro listing, then open the app in Shopify admin. There is no free plan. Basic is $4.99 a month, and every plan includes a 3-day trial.

1. Put the checker on the online store

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize.
  2. Open the page where shoppers should look, often a gift card page or the footer.
  3. Add the Gift Card Checker block. You can also turn on the floating balance button so it is available across the store.
  4. Set the title, the button label, and the message shown when a code cannot be checked. Save.

Shoppers type the code and see the balance. You do not edit theme code.

2. Bring in cards you already issued

On Advanced and Business, open Gift cards and sync. That pulls in gift cards Shopify already has, so you can search them in the app.

Shopify only keeps the last four digits of a card after it is created. Cards you create or import in this app keep the full code. A card that was only synced can still be checked when the customer enters the code they were given. You will not see that full code again in the admin.

3. Show a signed-in customer what they hold

In the theme editor, add the Your value block to a page customers see after they sign in. It can show gift cards, and store credit or assigned discount codes once those are turned on.

You can also add the same summary on the customer account profile, from the customer accounts editor.

4. Turn on store credit or discounts, if you want them

Gift cards are always on. In the app, open Modules.

  • Store credit lists what customers hold, and lets you issue credit to one customer, a pasted list, or a whole segment.
  • Discounts lists your codes, lets you create or import them, and shows which were never used.

Both stay off until you turn them on. Advanced can turn one on. Business can turn both on. Turning one on asks you to approve it in Shopify at that moment. If you only want gift cards, leave them off.

5. Checkout, on Business

The checkout checker is on the Business plan, and that plan is for Shopify Plus stores.

  1. Open the checkout editor.
  2. Add the gift card balance block where shoppers review the order.
  3. Save. A shopper can see the balance and apply the card without leaving checkout.

6. Shopify Flow, on Business

In Shopify Flow, add one of these actions:

  • Issue a gift card
  • Issue store credit: only after store credit is turned on
  • Assign a discount code: only after discounts are turned on, and only onto a discount you already created

If the matching option is off, the Flow step fails and you can see that in the workflow run. It does not silently succeed.
