Using Gift Card Checker

A shopper checks a balance

They open the page where you placed the checker, enter the code, and see what is left. On a phone the same checker stacks into a short form and a result.

You can change the words they see in the theme editor, including the message when a code is empty or cannot be checked, and the message when you require the full code instead of the last four digits.

What you do in the admin

  • Search gift cards and open one card to see its balance and status.
  • Sync cards Shopify already issued. Manual sync is on Advanced and Business.
  • Create cards in a batch on Advanced (up to 50 at a time) or Business (up to 500).
  • Import a list of cards you already issued, on Business.
  • Add value back onto a card, and set or change when it expires, on Business.
  • History records checks and changes from the admin, the storefront, and checkout. Unlimited history is on Advanced and Business.
  • Analytics shows how often balances are checked. Basic analytics is on every plan. Advanced analytics is on Advanced and Business.

Emails you can edit

On Advanced and Business, open the email settings and edit the messages the app sends:

  • A gift card is about to expire.
  • A gift card balance has dropped to the level you set.
  • A note to you when store credit needs attention.
  • A reminder to a customer whose store credit is expiring, unused, or sitting untouched.

Leave a message as it is if the default wording is enough. Store-credit reminders apply only when store credit is turned on.

Store credit

When the module is on:

  • See every balance, split by currency, including what is about to expire.
  • Issue credit to one customer, a list of customers, or a whole segment. Credit attaches to a customer account, so the person must already be a customer.
  • Include that balance in the total of value you still owe.

Discount codes

When the module is on:

  • See each discount and how many of its codes were never used.
  • Create codes in bulk, or import a list. While a large batch is being created, the app shows the progress.
  • Remove unused codes without removing codes that were already used.
  • From Flow, assign one code on a discount you already created.

A shopper can also look up a discount code on the storefront if you add the discount checker block.

Liability

The liability view totals gift card value that is still unspent. Store credit is included in that total once the module is on. Discounts are rules, not stored value, so they are not part of that total.

Shopify Flow

On Business, a workflow can issue a gift card, issue store credit, or assign a discount code. Turn the matching module on first, except for gift cards, which are always available.
